Best Largemouth And Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Flies
If you have trophy largemouth or smallmouth bass fishing holes near where you live, and have had problems managing to get them to take your fly, there are a few key replicas that you're going to need to start working on, or buying. These replicas will help you not only bag more fish each time you go out, but also help you understand the ecosystem where your favorite fish live, and how to get them to take a fake fly.
Minnow Imitations
In just about every fishing hole you come across, you are going to have small minnows swimming around. These little bait fish live off of the algae that grows, which makes them essential for thriving ecosystems. When you notice them near the banks, chances are you can catch quite a few large bass by swimming minnow replicas in the same places.
Crawfish Imitations
When you come across rocky areas, thick grass, or heavy timber, you'll want to start using sinking crawfish imitations. Bounce them along the bottom to mimic the same lifelike movements of a crawfish, in order to entice the bass into striking. Crawfish are a staple in many smallmouth diets.
Insect Imitations
When the bugs are flying around you, you'll want to start tying them on. You don't necessarily have to replicate the insect perfectly, but you will want to match up the colors, and try to mimic the same movements of the bug you're using. If they land softly on top of the water, you want your fly to repeat the same process, in order to avoid looking out of place and spooking the fish.
